I was responsible for the setup, adjustments and start of the equipment. The setup occurred with expert guidance by our friends from Blumenau. The project began with the aquisition of a 30.000 liters per month brewery, which was setup in the heart of a winery (crazy, huh?).

The startup of the brewery Alem Bier, in 2016, was more work than we could ever have predicted. The project soon expanded to grape ales and other fronts, with the arise of Alem Bier's national recognition in high quality complex sour beers. The recognition of the work appeared in various national and international beer challenges, with the attainment of 7 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. The harmonious notes of the funky and fruity brett character embraced every sip of these beers. The wave-like fermentation took 9 to 12 months to perfectly balance. We filled the used and refurbished oak barrels, which previously held wine, and inoculated the yeast for the second fermentation.

Once again, the price is around 1€.The most exciting project I have worked on - a series of 8 barrel aged beers that won 19 medals, until now! In this series, we explored the blending of various locally cultivated fruits - blackberry, raspberry, blueberry and grapes -, with a base of Tripel, Oatmeal Stout, Barleywine and Saison, and our favorite Brettanomyces from Belgium and the amazon rainforest. The name of this combination (beer and groselha) is “tango”. But people also like to mix beer with currant (they call it “groselha” in Portuguese).

– No alcohol (9.3%) Mixing beer with something elseīeer itself is great, but if you mix it with another drink it can also be tasty! Portuguese people like to mix it with 7up. “Uma lata de cerveja por favor” – A can of beer please Some types of Super Bock “Uma mini por favor” (Super Bock or Sagres) – A small bottle of Super Bock or Sagres please.Ħ. “Uma cerveja fresca por favor” – a cold beer pleaseĥ. “Duas cervejas por favor” – two beers pleaseĤ. “Uma cerveja por favor” – one beer pleaseģ. “Uma cerveja se faz favor” – one beer please.Ģ. Not bad at all…įast and short sentences to ask for a beer:ġ. And if you prefer to buy it in a super-market, the price drops down to 0,40€ per bottle. If you like beer and if you’re coming to Portugal, you will be happy to know that a draft beer in a restaurant or in a café in Lisbon (everywhere in Portugal, in fact), costs between 1€ and 1,5€. You can buy it in every single cafe and restaurant in Portugal.

If you want a small bottle instead, you can just say: “uma mini” (25 cl). In fact, all you have to say is: “uma Sagres” or uma “Super Bock por favor”. However, if you want to drink beer in a bottle you should ask for a “Super Bock” or for a “Sagres”.

You can order a “Caneca” (500 cl – the same size of a pint glass in the United Kingdom). In the North of the country you have to say: “um fino por favor” which means “a draft beer please”! Caneca and Girafaīut if you have one of those days where you feel that you have to drink more than the usual, you have two options in Lisbon. However, if you’re visiting Porto and if you ask for a beer, no one will understand what you want if you’re asking for an “imperial” (or at least, they won’t like it because the word “imperial” is used in… Lisbon). In the capital of Portugal, Lisbon, most people say “Uma imperial por favor” (“imperial” means draft beer). The different names of the beers vary not only in accordance with the size of the drink but also in accordance with the region or city where you’re buying your beer.
